PMC is the first local body in the country who decided to scientifically count total number of dogs in its jurisdiction and to create digital profile of stray dogs which includes their location, gender, colour, vaccination status and other demographic features. The objective is to use the database for effective vaccination and sterilization programs to control dog population.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)
IndieCare AI has collaborated with the BMC, through SMILE Council, to implement AI-driven program for the scientific management of free-roaming dogs (FRDs) in Mumbai. The project includes an AI-based survey and creation of a geo-tagged database of 10,000 dogs, digital identification through NFC QR tagging and “Dog Aadhaar” for 2,000 dogs during vaccination drives, and integration of shelters to monitor sterilization and treatment under the Animal Birth Control (ABC) program. A unified mobile and web platform will manage surveys, vaccinations, complaints, and caregiver registration—enhancing transparency, supporting ABC Rules implementation, reducing human-animal conflict, and enabling long-term population stabilization through data-driven decision-making.
